How Does the 2024 Subaru Ascent Compare to the 2024 Toyota Highlander?

At The Autobarn Subaru of Countryside, helping our customers find the best vehicle for their lifestyle and needs is our number one priority. That's why, if you're shopping for a new three-row SUV in Chicago, we invite you to take advantage of our wonderful selection of new Subaru Ascent models. The Subaru Ascent lineup offers everything you want from a three-row SUV and then some. All models have comfortable seating for seven or eight passengers, ample cargo space, cutting-edge technology and safety features, and a strong performance.

To help you learn more about what makes the Subaru Ascent lineup special, we're going to compare it to the new Toyota Highlander lineup, highlighting some of the many things that the new Ascent lineup does best.

Price

If you're shopping for the more affordable three-row SUV, choose a new Subaru Ascent model. The Subaru Ascent lineup starts at under $35,000, while the Toyota Highlander lineup starts at just under $39,500, allowing you to upgrade to a higher Ascent trim level for a similar price or save when buying the base model.

Interior Size

Both the Subaru Ascent and Toyota Highlander models are three-row SUVs, but the Subaru Ascent has the edge in passenger volume, allowing you and your family or friends to stretch out and enjoy the ride to Broadview. The Ascent and Highlander models offer seating for eight or seven passengers, depending on if you choose a second row bench seat or captain's chairs. However, the Ascent lineup has 153.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, compared to 141.3 cubic feet in the Highlander models.

Technology Features

The Subaru Ascent SUVs make it easy to stay connected and in control with the utmost convenience thanks to the new Subaru Starlink multimedia system. The Starlink system comes on a standard 11.6-inch touchscreen display in every model, featuring standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration in all models, allowing you to have handsfree control of calling, apps, messages, maps, messages, and more. The Highlander has a standard 8-inch touchscreen display for its infotainment system.

Safety Features

All the new Subaru Ascent and Toyota Highlander models have a full suite of driver assistance features. Only the Subaru Ascent models have standard LED steering responsive headlights that turn with the steering wheel to let you see around corners as you're turning them. The Highlander has adaptive headlights, but they're only available on the highest trim level.

Performance

When facing poor weather conditions around Countryside, IL or when adventuring on rugged terrain and off-road trails, the Subaru Ascent lineup provides you with the utmost confidence. That's because all the new Ascent models come with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is full-time, sending power to all four-wheels and automatically diverting it to the wheels with the most traction if any should slip, letting you maintain the utmost traction and control wherever you go around Oak Lawn or across the country. The Toyota Highlander lineup comes with standard front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive models costing more.

The new Subaru Ascent models have more torque than the Toyota Highlander models do. The Ascent lineup uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 277 pounds-feet of torque, while the Toyota Highlander models have a 3.5-liter V6 with 263 pounds-feet of torque.
